Excluded sportspeople that should be in the running

The list above includes sportspersons who have achieved success in their respective sports this season. According to experts, two athletes should have been among the nominees for the BBC Sporty Award of the year in 2021. These two sportspersons are:

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton was snubbed by the BBC’s Sporty Personality of the Year award a few hours after a heart-breaking F1 title defeat in the last Grand Prix event in Abu Dhabi. He had looked pinned on to seal a record-breaking 8th world title in the Grand Prix event that took place last weekend.

A controversial late call from Michael Masi, the FIA director, proved to be the main catalyst for Verstappen to pip his close rival to the crown. Despite winning the award twice in 2014 and 2020, Lewis Hamilton did not make the shortlist of the six nominees. Losing in the finale is the main thing that might have disadvantaged him. But many experts have been considering him as one of the favourites for the 2021 BBC Sporty Award of the Year.

Harry Kane

Harry Kane has been a top player for both his national team and club. The England captain claimed the 2020-2021 Golden Boot with a total of 23 goals, five clear of Manchester United’s Fernandes and one ahead of Liverpool’s Salah.

The Tottenham forward has been viewed as a favourite to win this award, thanks to his good form on the field for the club as well as the national team. If he would make it to the list, then voters would consider him massively.
