RWC 2019: Semi-Finals Match Analysis

We now take a look at the two semi-final matches and pick out which two teams we think will make it to the final.

* Odds have been provided by William Hill and are accurate as of 23/10/2019

England vs. New Zealand

(Saturday 26 October, 17:00 JST)

Hosts Japan were eliminated in the quarter-finals but thousands of Japanese fans will continue to pack the stadium on Saturday evening as they have thrown their support behind the All Blacks. This is the first time England will play New Zealand in a World Cup playoff game since 1995.

England have odds of 23/10 while the All Blacks have odds of 2/5 and the possibility of a drawn match rests at 25/1. England coach Eddie Jones told the media that his side feels no pressure as they go into the semi-finals as the underdogs and have nothing to prove. He made a surprise revelation at the press conference claiming that there someone was spying on England’s training sessions but did not accuse the All Blacks of any wrongdoing.

The mighty All Blacks are looking to win their third consecutive World Cup and will be feeling the pressure. However, New Zealand has made it a habit to take their game to the next level when they are put under pressure, just like they did in their quarter-final match against Ireland which they dominated.

The All Blacks are expecting a very physical game but are prepared to give as good as they get. They have shown tremendous defense during this World Cup and their speed up front makes them dangerous for any opposition. The All Blacks will want to start strong and put England immediately under pressure while England will need to find the right strategy between defensive and offensive play.

Odds To Win: 23/10 (England), 2/5 (New Zealand)

Wales vs. South Africa

(Sunday 27 October, 18:00 JST)

South Africa are the favourites in the second semi-final with odds of 4/11 while Wales go in with odds of 5/2. The possibility of a draw currently stands at 25/1.

The Springboks had a terrible first half against Japan during the quarter-finals as they made multiple errors and looked like the pressure of the quarter-final got to them. They cannot afford to make the same errors against Wales or they will find themselves on the losing side.

Wales should be playing at full strength as their coach Neil Jenkins confirmed that two of their centers (Hadleigh Parkes and Jonathan Davies) are fit to start against South Africa. The Springboks know that Wales have a great kicking game and have stated that they are not taking them lightly and will prepare as if they are going to play England or the All Blacks in the final.
.
Odds To Win: 5/2 (Wales), 4/11 (South Africa)
