Nunes To Defend Bantamweight Against Pennington at UFC 224

UFC 224 takes place on May 12 but there hasn’t been a lot of buzz floating around. One of the reasons for the lack of coverage of the UFC 224 card is because the event is not being held in the United States.

UFC 224 takes place at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro and will feature a number of Brazilian fighters.

UFC Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is set to defend her belt against friend Raquel Pennington who will turn foe once the Octagon closes.

Nunes enters the Octagon as a heavy favourite with odds (-700) and is confident that she can defend her belt successfully once again.

Pennington (+450) is making her return to the Octagon after a long layoff and knows that she will have to be on top of her game if she is going to beat Amanda Nunes.

The two fighters have been friends for a long time and are confident that once the fight is finished, they will go back to being friends. However, once the Octagon door closes, they will go toe-to-toe and hopefully give the fans an exciting Main Event.

In a statement, Nunes said

This is a single sport, you can't think in group. You have to think about yourself. That belt is in my house and I never want that belt to go anywhere. The motivation is to keep proving I'm the best, keep proving I'm the champion and then we can be friends again.

Belfort vs. Machida

This will be an unofficial Main Event for the Brazilian fans as they get to see Vitor Belfort fight in the UFC for probably the last time as this is the final fight on his contract. The two Brazilian legends are also friends and have immense respect for each other. If Belfort wins, it will be interesting to see if the UFC decide to renew his contract.

Jacare vs. Gastelum

The winner of this fight will most likely get the opportunity to fight for the winner of Whittaker vs. Romero for the belt. Gastelum has great striking but has shown that he has a weakness on the mat. There are few fighters who are better than Jacare on the ground and Gastelum will have to ensure he does not get taken down or gets up quickly if taken down.

Dern vs. Cooper

This fight is bound to sell pay-per- views as fans get to watch two beautiful women with great skills compete against each other. This is the second fight in the UFC for Dern who is a BJJ black belt. She will be keen on finishing Cooper and sending a strong statement to the rest of the division who have questioned her stand up game.
