Wilder Wants Andy Ruiz Jr To Win, To Get “Bigger Fight”

Updated On Oct 18, 2019 by Landon Wheeler

Deontay Wilder & Andy Ruiz JrBoxing fans for the last couple of years have been calling for a heavyweight clash between American Deontay Wilder and Brit Anthony Joshua who was the WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion. That fight never happened as a fight agreement could not be reached and both Wilder and Joshua kept fighting other opponents.

It now appears that the Wilder vs. Joshua fight may never happen, especially if current WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. ends up winning his rematch against Joshua.

Andy Ruiz Jr shocked the boxing world in June 2019 when he stepped in on short notice and fought Joshua at Madison Square Garden.

He won via TKO to give the British fighter his first loss. Anthony Joshua had a rematch clause in his fight contract with which he invoked to schedule the rematch on December 7 in Saudi Arabia.

Deontay Wilder believes that Andy Ruiz Jr. will win the rematch against Joshua and he wants him to win. The American is no longer keen on fighting Joshua as he believes that a fight with Andy Ruiz Jr will be a lot bigger than a fight with Anthony Joshua.

Wilder has a fight coming up on November 23 when he takes on Luis Ortiz at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Wilder fought Ortiz back in 2018 and came out on the winning side with a TKO in the 10th round. However, it was arguably the biggest challenge that Wilder has faced in his career and he is determined to win the second fight in a more impressive fashion.

Should Wilder win and maintain his undefeated record, he will have the opportunity to call for a fight with Brit Tyson Fury or a fight with Andy Ruiz Jr. provided he ends up winning his fight with Anthony Joshua.

Anthony Joshua Confident Of Regaining His Belts

The former champ is working extremely hard for his rematch and is doing a 12 week training camp. Joshua wasn’t really prepared to face a boxer like Andy Ruiz Jr who stepped in on short notice and surprised Joshua with both his speed and durability.

Joshua has been sparring with partners who are built like Andy Ruiz Jr and is confident that he will KO Andy Ruiz Jr. and regain his belts in Saudi Arabia.
