FC Barcelona Say Goodbye To Messi Due To Financial Hardships

There were rumours in 2020 that Messi was going to leave Barcelona but the two parties sorted out their issues and Messi stayed on.

When Messi’s contract expired, he made it clear that he was interested in staying on with Barcelona and playing out the remainder of his career with the Spanish giants.

Messi went on to sign a 5 year contract extension with Barcelona even though the Spanish club was struggling financially. Messi decided to take close to a 50 percent pay cut in order to remain with Barcelona.

Barcelona had to carry out some significant financial restricting in order to be able to pay Lionel Messi. The club has accumulated massive financial debts and was doing everything it could in order to free up as much cash that it could to retain Messi who many consider to be the number one football player in the game.

However Barcelona was unable to get its financial restricting together and was forced to say goodbye to Lionel Messi. Barcelona released an official statement and said that even though they were able to reach an agreement with Messi, the financial restricting process set out by La Liga made it impossible for them to keep Messi any longer.

Barcelona said that they were disappointed for not being able to retain Lionel Messi and went on to wish him the best in both his personal and professional career. Messi leaves Barcelona with an outstanding record of playing 778 games, scoring 672 goals and finishing as the club’s highest scorer.

When rumours surfaced in 2020 of Messi leaving Barcelona, there was talk that Messi would go to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). While every single football club in the world would be happy to have Lionel Messi, only very few football clubs can afford to sign Messi. One of these clubs in PSG and hence those rumours are once again doing the rounds.

This time those rumours have a little more weight behind them because Barcelona has now officially confirmed that Lionel Messi is a free agent. Messi’s former Barcelona teammate Neymar Jr. who now players for PSG stirred things up by posting a picture of his mates along with Lionel Messi!
