The Los Angeles Lakers (LA Lakers) have had a poor start to the 75th Anniversary Season of the NBA. The Lakers have played 10 games, won 5 and lost 5. They have lost their last two games with their last loss coming at the hands of the Portland Trail Blazers over the weekend, when they went down 90-105.
The Lakers usually look to their superstar LeBron James who joined in 2018 to lead from the front as the rest of the squad rallies around King James. However, they are going to be without the services of LeBron James who suffered an injury. Lakers fans initially thought that James would be out for a week to 10 days but it now looks like the Lakers will be without their star player for the next two months.
Dr. Tim DiFrancesco, former strength and conditioning course for James said the injury that he suffered has to do with the overextension of the torso at extreme force. These types of injuries can occur in tennis players as they serve or in basketball players as they look to pull off a tomahawk dunk. DiFrancesco said that if this was a minor injury, it would take a 4 to 8 weeks for a full recovery and a lot longer if it is a serious injury.
James suffered his injury during the game against the Houston Rockets on Nov 02. He did pull off a one handed dunk during this game but did not show any discomfort then. The Lakers have not released any more information as of now regarding James’s injury or a potential return date.
Injuries Taking Its Toll On James
James also suffered an injury last season and he missed a lot of games which hurt the Lakers big time and was one of the reasons why they did not make the playoffs. The way things appear, it looks like James could be out of action till February 2022 and the Lakers could end up in a bad spot, if they continue to lose without James.
James who will turn 37 on Dec 30 is now playing his 19th season in the NBA and injuries have started to take their toll. When you take into consideration the number of additional games he has played over the years by making it to numerous playoffs, James has played an extra three seasons.
When he does come back, the Lakers will have to use him wisely even though he insists on spending as much time as possible on the court.
