Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregorManny Pacquiao is boxing royalty and a future hall of famer. Pacquiao who is nicknamed “PacMan” is also a Senator in his home country of the Philippines. Pacquiao who is 42 is still keen on fighting and is looking to book his next fight in 2021.

There were talks a few years ago that Manny Pacquiao might rematch Floyd Mayweather but that appears to be out of the window now. Pacquiao’s last fight was back in July 2019 when he beat the undefeated Keith Thurman to capture the WBA title after a 12 round split decision win.

Pacquiao hasn’t fought in 2020 mainly due to the coronavirus pandemic and is keen on getting back into action in 2021.

His next fight could potentially be American Errol Spence Jr. who is the unified welterweight champion. Spence fought the dangerous Danny Garcia in December 20 and dominated the fight.

Spence is the current IBF champ, a title which he has held since 2017 and also the WBC champ, a title that he has had since 2019. However, Pacquiao isn’t very keen on fighting the 30 year old boxer as he feels that Spence is too slow and is an easier fight than Thurman.

PacMan prefers to fight MMA superstar Conor McGregor who has only one pro boxing fight against his old rival Floyd Mayweather. McGregor lost that fight but put up a good show. The Irish MMA star has expressed interest in returning to the boxing ring and has made reference to Manny Pacquiao before.

Will Pacquiao vs. McGregor Take Place In 2021?

The fight between Pacquiao and McGregor will be a lot easier to make than Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight. This is because both Pacquiao and McGregor are signed to the same management company.

Should the Pacquiao vs. McGregor boxing match get made, Pacquiao will go in as the favourite undoubtedly. One reason Pacquiao is more interested in fighting McGregor than Spence is because the McGregor fight will generate a lot more revenue for the two fighters.

Pacquiao has already promised to donate a chunk of his winnings from a potential bout with McGregor to COVID-19 victims in the Philippines.

McGregor hasn’t made any statement in 2021 regarding a fight with Pacquiao as the Conor McGregor is currently focusing on returning to the Octagon despite retiring in 2020 on a fight in Jan 23 at UFC257 when he takes on Dustin Poirier for what could be a number one contender spot for the UFC lightweight championship.
