Solskjær Takes Manchester United’s Hot Seat On 3yr Deal

Updated On Mar 29, 2019 by David Nugent

Ole Gunnar SolskjærManchester United, one of the most famous football clubs in the world confirmed that Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been appointed as the club’s permanent manager. Solskjær had previously served as Man United’s Reserve Coach before moving to his home country of Norway where he served as coach for Norwegian club Molde and led them to a Norwegian cup and two top-flight titles.

After replacing Jose Mourinho in December 2018, Solskjær was able to take Man United to the quarterfinals of the Champions League and into the top four of the Premier League. This immediate turnaround in the club’s fortunes was a performance that the club considered as the world’s best audition for the permanent manager position. Solskjær has been given a 3 year contract.

Apart from the impressive results, the decision to sign Solskjær was also influenced by the club’s plan to develop its young players and to improve its style of play. Sources close to the club said that Mike Phelan will remain as assistant manager.

Solskjær becomes United’s fourth permanent manager after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure. The other three permanent managers were David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and of course Jose Mourinho.

The Right Man for the Job

During an interview, Solskjær revealed that becoming United’s manager was a dream come true for him. He is very excited to lead the club and hopes that he will be able to meet the expectations of United fans. Solskjær went on to say that he has always felt at home with the club where he spent most of his football career as a striker. He also expressed his gratitude to United’s coaching staff and players for the support that they have provided.

United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said that it is not just Solskjær’s previous performance as caretaker that made them sign the 46 year-old veteran player and coach. The club also considered Solskjær’s experience, his deep understanding of the club’s culture and his mission of providing better opportunities to young players.

Woodward thanked Solskjær for everything he has done for United so far. He also assured him that everyone at United as well as the club’s fans will support him in his quest to take the club into a new chapter in its already rich history.

Man United Could Play Molde

Manchester United is expected to compensate Molde following Solskjær’s appointment. It is quite possible that as a gesture of goodwill the Red Devils may agree to play a friendly match against the Norwegian club.

The management at Molde is happy for Solskjær and wished him well for his future. New coach Erling Moe is expected to replace Solskjær at Molde.
