Retired Eli Manning Still Keen On Being A Part Of The New York Giants

Eli ManningEli Manning who recently called time on his legendary NFL career has no plans from walking away from the game he loved or the team he spend most of his career with. Manning who is keen on spending more time with his family wants to continue to be associated with the New York Giants.

John Mara, one of the owners of the Giants, was explicit in his desire for Manning to remain with the team in retirement, playing a role that would allow the legendary quarterback to impart his knowledge and experience to younger players.

For his part, Manning played coy but did not close the door on the possibility, indicating that he would welcome such a role if made available to him.

According to Manning, he has to discuss the terms with Mara and the Giants leadership before making a final decision.

League insiders and observers are convinced of Manning’s suitability for the role. Furthermore, the role is quite low-key, and would likely not impinge on Manning’s retirement plans. With Mara clearly expressing an interest for Manning to stay with the team in retirement and Manning’s interest in the said position, it is likely that both sides will be able to work out a deal for the 2020 NFL season.

Manning Retires As An NFL Legend

Manning retired from the NFL late last week, after 16 seasons. Selected first overall by the San Diego Chargers in 2004, Manning was immediately traded to the Giants, where he played the entirety of his storied career. He holds records for the seventh-highest passing yards (57,023) and touchdowns (366) in NFL history.

Manning holds the second-longest streak for quarterbacks by starting 210 consecutive regular season games, next to Brett Favre’s 297. Manning never missed a game due to injury. He led his team to two Super Bowl wins as the underdog against the New England Patriots in 2007 and 2011, and was named the Super Bowl MVP in Super Bowl XLII and XLVI — one among just five players with more than one Super Bowl MVP award.

Earlier this season, Manning was relegated to the bench for first-round draft pick Daniel Jones; when Jones was injured, Manning started the final two games of the season. Manning’s last game resulted in a 36-20 victory versus the Miami Dolphins on December 15.
