Pennsylvania has been a little slow when compared to other states in getting their sports betting industry up and running. However, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has preferred to take a slow approach to ensure that it has all regulations in place and that its licensed operators are fully compliant.

The first sportsbook in the Keystone state was launched by SugarHouse Casino in May. SugarHouse casino is the sister casino of Rivers and is also operated by Rush Street.

The second sportsbook went live earlier this week when Parx Casino decided to give its online sportsbook a trial run under the watchful eye of the state gaming regulator.

Rivers Casino has now launched the third sportsbook and will proceed with an official launch once it gets approval from the PGCB. The gaming board will be assessing the platform’s responsible gambling features, customer interaction and accounting procedures. BetRivers.com is also required by the gaming board to strictly comply with regulations to ensure that it only accept bets placed by gamblers 21 years and over who are physically present within the state of Pennsylvania.

A number of new online and mobile sportsbooks are expected to enter the Pennsylvania market in the next few months. Rivers and SugarHouse will want to take advantage of the next few months to capture as much market share as possible before other operators start competing for customers.

Online Sports Betting To Overtake Physical Bets

Rivers Casino currently handles around $9 million monthly in sports bets in person. The launch of its online and mobile sportsbook is expected to generate a lot more revenue and surpass the $9 million.

Rush Street has refused to disclose how many users so far have signed up through the playsugarhouse.com website so far. As its opening promotion to bring in new players, Rivers is set to match initial deposits up to $250, effectively doubling all first time deposits on the platform.

Android users will have no problem downloading the new sportsbook app but the same cannot be said for Apple users. Since Apple has imposed new coding requirements, it is going to take a few more months before Rivers and SugarHouse can release their iOS app.
