Serena WilliamsFans at Flushing Meadows had a lot to look forward to as the 2018 US Open had a number of exciting matches lined up for them in both the men’s singles and the women’s singles. American fans were thrilled to see the veteran Serena Williams make it through to the quarter-finals and young Madison Keys also power her way through to the quarter-finals.

Serena Williams wasn’t about to go down to Kaia Kanepi from Estonia and triumphed 6-0, 4- 6, 6-3. This was the 10th consecutive time that Williams has booked herself a place in the US Open quarter-finals.

Williams was thrilled with her victory as she said it was a very tough match for her and she was happy to come through.

The American did not play the 2017 US Open as she was getting ready to give birth to her first child. She has made a remarkable comeback defying the odds and proving yet again why she will go down as one of the best to have ever played the game.

Some of the other women who made it through to the quarter finals include Japan’s Naomi Osaka and Lesia Tsurenko.

Madison Keys Looking To Make Her Mark

Serena Williams will be the favourite after making it to the quarter-finals but 14th seeded Madison Keys will look to make her mark at Flushing Meadows. She beat Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova 6-1, 6-3 to advance and make it to her third Grand Slam quarter-finals
in 2018.

The 23 year old Keys was beaten by Sloane Stephens and finished as the runner-up at the 2017 US Open. She will be determined to go all the way this year but will have to overcome a number of challenges starting with Carla Suárez Navarro. Carla Suárez Navarro overpowered Maria Sharapova winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. What will work in Key’s favour is the massive support that she has playing on home turf but Sloane Stephens and Serena Williams will still stand in her way.
