US Arbitrator Orders Fury To Fight Wilder Before Sep 15

Tyson Fury and Deontay WilderDeontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury 3 was expected to take place in 2021 but Fury decided that he could not play the waiting game any longer and decided to drop the idea of fighting Deontay Wilder a third time. Wilder decided to go to an arbitrator as his contract with Fury had provision for a third fight immediately.

While the arbitration process was underway, WBC champ Tyson Fury set his sights on a mega fight against WBA, WBO and IBF Champ Anthony Joshua. Fury announced earlier this week that the two of them would be fighting in Saudi Arabia on August 14.

Boxing fans were hyped to see the AJ vs. Fury fight as it is slated to be one of the biggest heavyweight fights in history.

However, that fight could now be in jeopardy as Daniel Weinstein, a former federal judge has ruled in favour of Deontay Wilder and ordered Tyson Fury to fight Wilder before September 15.

Wilder was also looking for monetary damages but the arbitrator denied his request. Weinstein ruled that the fight between Wilder and Fury must take place in a mutually agreed venue and time.

This fight has the possibility of replacing the AJ vs. Fury fight as Bob Arum, who is the promoter for Tyson Fury had earlier confirmed that they had booked the Allegiant Stadium for the rematch on July 24. Arum made this statement when negotiations between Fury and AJ stalled.

Wilder vs. Fury 3 Has Provision To Be Postponed

While Weinstein ruled that the fight between Wilder and Fury must take place before September 15, there is provision for the fight date to be postponed by mutual agreement. For this to happen, Deontay Wilder will have to be paid a big sum of money. There is no indication from Wilder’s camp right now if he will be willing to step aside for a big payout or if he is adamant to fight Fury before AJ does.

The fight between AJ and Tyson Fury is expected to net each fighter upwards of $75 million. Wilder will want a big cut and we will have to wait and see if Fury is willing to part with a pile of cash for a crack at AJ or if he will take a chance to beat Wilder again and then face AJ – which could turn out to be an even bigger fight then!
